I was really disappointed with this site. I called in advance to see if space was available and whether I could reserve a place. I was told room was available and travelled 4 hrs to be told it was full. The staff were not friendly and I would never return.
Great little camping.
All was good, the shop had a little of everything, clean and quiet place.
At 5 minutes walk we had a lovely dinner at the village hotel restaurant.
The 20 minute walk to the town is easy and pretty.
The only thing a little annoying was the church bell that rings all the night non-stop...
Very nice camping with easy - though uphill - walking access (10-15 minutes) to Rothenburg. Helpful owner and very clean toilets and showers. Limited / no swimming or sports facilities. Pitches not terribly large and access can be tight for larger vehicles through the village and within the camping. However, entirely manageable with a little patience and caution. Preferred choice of visiting Rothenburg.
Finding this wasn\'t an issue, I remembered it\'s location from my previous trip to Rothenburg. Showers are free, the small shop is reasonably stocked with useful supplies and morning bread can be ordered. Busy site but still quiet despite that. Pitches are fairly level although a little worn.
Not a great experience, which was surpris
Campingplatz Tauber-Idyll is one of two campsites in Detwang, an attractive village which is a short, but steep uphill walk to Rothenburg ob der Tauber,
On arrival, a fellow camper advised us to try the campsite next door instead, but we checked in anyway. The receptionist did not seem particularly friendly, and the man who showed us to our pitch didn\'t bother to acknowledge us in any way. We were surprised by this, as other reviews said how friendly they were.
The site was very busy, and, on being shown to our \"pitch\", we found it was simply a small space squeezed in between three other tents and camper vans. Some pitches elsewhere were clearly marked out and with reasonable space, but these were all taken, and the owners were simply packing in as many units as possible into any space of grass they could find. Had we known the situation before checking in and paying our money, we would have found an alternative site, perhaps the one next door. As we were now committed to the pitch, we spent an uncomfortable evening tripping over neighbours\' guylines and apologising for blocking the entrance to their tents (we were lucky that our neighbours were very friendly). Space was so limited that we had to pitch one tent on arrival for cooking under (as it was raining), and then pack it away in order to put the kid\'s tiny pup tents in it\'s place. Even then, it was a squeeze.
In the sanitary block, there were only 2 male showers, so there was a short queue in the morning, but there were 4 WC cubicles with paper and hand washing soap and were clean. There was no restriction on hot water in the shower.
The Reception doubled as a small shop, selling essentials, and the prices were reasonable for the convenience it offered. WiFi was free with a password given at reception, but the signal was poor and almost unusable.
we considered it very poor value for money considering the cramped conditions, and although we loved the area around Rothenburg ODT, we would definitely not stay at the site again.
Highly recommend this site if visiting Rothenburg. Very friendly and helpful owners who guided us to our pitch. Excellent toilet/free shower facilities. Smallish site, nice and quiet. Lovely 20 min stroll into Rothenburg, easy to take car too, we had no problem with parking. Rothenburg is amazing town, loved it. Free wifi at this site which was bonus. Wash/Dry 4.5 Euros, good value but room to machines locked, owner unlocks to let you load machine and you go back 1hr later, he opens it again, on goes drier and 1hr later you go back and ask him to open again - no doubt good reason for this but I didn't ask! All in all excellent site.
Very friendly staff who went out of their way to help locate and look after lost airline baggage. Quiet site with a lovely walk to Rothenburg.
Went here to go to Rothenburg, which is a must. Lovely town. But beware is only accessed from site via a VERY steep hill (if on foot). You can walk round the bottom to get to town but is quite a hike. Mostly grass pitches, but a few hardstandings for motorhomes, not marked, so you hope new arrivals are sensible with parking. Good facilities. Cafe/restaurant shut, but several places to eat just outside the site, had several excellent meals with very genial ''mine host'' who spoke no English but made us very welcome.
